September 28, 2026

Exim Bank signs GOI-supported $4,850 crore line of credit with Maldives for development projects, notified by RBI to authorised dealer banks.

India Extends Financial Support to Maldives via Exim Bank LOC

The Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank), under a Government of India-supported arrangement, has executed a Line of Credit (LOC) agreement worth ₹4,850 crores with the Government of Maldives on July 25, 2025. The Reserve Bank of India has informed all Category-I Authorised Dealer Banks of the arrangement, enabling operationalisation of fund disbursement.

The LOC is designated for financing developmental projects in the Maldives across infrastructure, energy, and public services. Such lines of credit are instruments of economic diplomacy, reinforcing bilateral ties while promoting Indian exports and project execution.

Legal practitioners advising on project finance or international development contracts should note the procedural framework for accessing LOC funds, including requirement for Indian contractors, adherence to procurement norms, and compliance with multilateral obligations. This LOC reflects ongoing strategic engagement in India’s neighbourhood.
