Auction of Treasury Bills: ₹9,000 Crore 91-Day and ₹8,000 Crore 182-Day Bills

September 27, 2026

RBI to auction ₹9,000 crore of 91-day and ₹8,000 crore of 182-day Treasury Bills on September 30, 2026, with settlement on October 1.

RBI to Auction ₹17,000 Crore in Treasury Bills

The Reserve Bank of India has announced the auction of Government of India Treasury Bills for September 30, 2026. The notified amounts include ₹9,000 crore of 91-day T-Bills and ₹8,000 crore of 182-day T-Bills. The auction will be followed by settlement on October 1, 2026 (Thursday).

These auctions are part of the government’s regular market borrowing programme to meet short-term fiscal requirements. The 364-day T-Bill auction has not been scheduled for this date, indicating a calibrated approach to manage the yield curve and avoid excessive front-loading of borrowings. The auctions will be conducted through multiple price bidding, with primary dealers and financial institutions expected to participate actively.

T-Bills remain a key instrument for short-term liquidity management and are widely used by banks for Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR) holdings and cash management. The yields discovered in these auctions will serve as benchmarks for short-term interest rates in the money market and may influence pricing of commercial paper and certificates of deposit. Investors will monitor the bid-to-cover ratio and weighted average yield for signals on market sentiment and liquidity absorption by the RBI.
