Prof. (Dr.) Pinaki Ghosh, former DPIIT IP Chair Professor at WBNUJS, passed away at 61. He played a key role in advancing GI and IP education in India.

In Memoriam: Professor (Dr.) Pinaki Ghosh (1965–2026)

The Indian intellectual property community mourns the passing of Professor (Dr.) Pinaki Ghosh, former DPIIT IP Chair Professor at West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), who died at the age of 61 following a prolonged illness.

Dr. Ghosh, who served at WBNUJS from 2019 until March 2026, was instrumental in mentoring future IP practitioners and advancing research in geographical indications. He played a vital role in nearly 24 GI applications, contributing significantly to regional IP awareness and protection.

His interdisciplinary approach — bridging scientific innovation, legal policy, and commercial law — inspired students and scholars alike. Colleagues remember him as a rigorous academic and passionate advocate for robust IP frameworks that serve public interest.
