Amendments to Investment Portfolio Regulations for Financial Institutions

The Reserve Bank of India has issued a series of Amendment Directions, 2026 across multiple categories of financial institutions, including Commercial Banks, Small Finance Banks, Payments Banks, Local Area Banks, and All India Financial Institutions (AIFIs). These updates, effective September 22, 2026, amend the respective Classification, Valuation, and Operation of Investment Portfolio Directions, 2025, primarily revisiting Chapter IX on fair valuation and Chapter VI on market value of investments.

The amendments aim to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with market conditions in the valuation of debt and equity instruments held in investment portfolios.
