RBI Bulletin – September 2026: State of the Economy and Corporate Investment Outlook

September 27, 2026

The Reserve Bank of India released its September 2026 Bulletin, featuring economic assessments, including analysis of private corporate investment growth in 2025-26 and outlook for 2026-27, amid renewed geopolitical tensions in West Asia affecting global economic conditions.

RBI September 2026 Bulletin Highlights Economic Pressures and Investment Trends

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the September 2026 issue of its monthly Bulletin, which includes three key analytical articles on the state of the economy, credit-deposit divergence, and private corporate investment trends. The Bulletin comes amid re-escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia, which the RBI notes are posing renewed risks to global economic stability, trade flows, and commodity markets, particularly affecting oil prices and inflationary pressures in emerging economies.

The first article, 'State of the Economy', evaluates macroeconomic indicators including GDP growth, inflation trajectories, and fiscal developments. It notes that while domestic demand remains resilient, external headwinds could affect growth momentum in the second half of FY 2026-27. The second article, 'Credit-Deposit Divergence: A Balance Sheet Decomposition', analyses the widening gap between bank credit growth and deposit mobilisation, attributing it to structural shifts in savings behaviour, corporate borrowing patterns, and liquidity management by financial institutions.

The third article, 'Private Corporate Investment: Growth in 2025-26 and Outlook for 2026-27', highlights a pickup in capital expenditure by Indian corporates, particularly in infrastructure, manufacturing, and renewable energy sectors. It identifies improved capacity utilisation, policy clarity, and credit availability as key drivers. The RBI observes that private investment momentum, if sustained, could play a critical role in achieving higher GDP growth, provided global conditions stabilise and domestic financial intermediation remains robust.
