RBI Amends Investment Portfolio Rules for All India Financial Institutions

The Reserve Bank of India has issued the Reserve Bank of India (All India Financial Institutions - Classification, Valuation, and Operation of Investment Portfolio) Amendment Directions, 2026, effective September 22, 2026. The amendment modifies Chapter VI of the 2025 Directions, focusing on the market value of investments.

The regulatory update aims to ensure consistency in valuation practices across institutions such as NABARD, EXIM Bank, and NHB. By standardising valuation methodologies, the RBI seeks to improve transparency in financial reporting and strengthen risk management frameworks.

Legal advisors to financial institutions must assess the revised disclosure and classification requirements. These changes align with broader efforts to harmonise prudential norms across the financial sector, enhancing investor confidence and regulatory oversight.
