Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme - Premature Redemption Price

July 22, 2026

The RBI announced the redemption price for premature redemption of the Sovereign Gold Bond 2018-19 Series-V effective from July 22, 2026, in accordance with regulatory guidelines.

Premature redemption under Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) Scheme

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has informed the market regarding the impending premature redemption price of the Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) 2018-19 Series-V, which falls due on July 22, 2026. This redemption is permissible after the fifth year from the date of issue, and the redemption price will be determined based on a simple average of previous week’s closing gold prices.

The procedure follows the notification issued by the Government of India on October 08, 2018, ensuring that investors can exercise their right to redeem their investments conveniently on specified dates. As stipulated, the next occasion for this premature redemption corresponds with the payment of interest, which adds flexibility for investors preferring liquidity over long-term holding.

Practitioners advising clients in wealth management should be aware of these provisions and inform investors on the premium they could achieve. Understanding the mechanics of the SGB Scheme—including redemption policies—will allow financial advisors to better serve their clients' needs regarding gold investments, particularly in market fluctuations.
