PIB Debunks Fake Notification on Saturday Holidays

October 4, 2026

PIB clarifies that only second and fourth Saturdays are bank holidays; a viral notification declaring all Saturdays as holidays is fake.

Public Sector Bank Holiday Schedule Clarified

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has issued a fact-check clarifying that a viral notification claiming all Saturdays as public sector bank holidays is false. The official schedule maintains that only the second and fourth Saturdays each month are designated as holidays.

This clarification prevents misinformation that could disrupt financial transactions, especially in retail banking and clearing operations. PIB emphasized that no such gazette notification has been issued by the Ministry of Finance or RBI.

Practitioners and clients should reference the official RBI holiday list by state. Banks may operate on other Saturdays for specific services, but the core holiday framework remains unchanged. Awareness of this helps avoid contractual or compliance errors based on false information.
