NRD-CSR Returns Now Mandatory via CIMS Sankalan Portal

October 4, 2026

RBI mandates submission of Non-Resident Deposits – Comprehensive Single Return (NRD-CSR) through the CIMS Sankalan portal, replacing the XBRL platform. All banks maintaining NRD accounts must comply with revised reporting protocols.

NRD-CSR Returns Now Mandatory via CIMS Sankalan Portal

On October 1, 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) directed all Authorised Dealers maintaining Non-Resident Deposits (NRD) accounts to submit the NRD-CSR (R012) return exclusively through the CIMS Sankalan portal, replacing the earlier XBRL-based reporting system. The move streamlines foreign exchange data collection and enhances real-time monitoring of NRD liabilities.

This directive, issued via A.P. (DIR Series) Circular No. 24, references earlier guidance from August 7, 2013, and incorporates updates to reporting frequency, format, and validation protocols. Institutions are required to validate data mapping and conduct system readiness assessments ahead of full migration.

Practitioners must note that the shift to CIMS Sankalan reflects RBI’s broader digital transformation agenda. Banks are advised to update internal reporting modules and train compliance staff to avoid delays or data discrepancies. Timely adherence ensures alignment with RBI’s macro-prudential surveillance framework.
