The Central Government has appointed Mayank Kumar, a 1991-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, as Member of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). He was serving as Principal Chief Commissioner of Mumbai Customs Zone-I prior to the appointment.
The appointment fills an existing vacancy on the CBIC, a statutory body responsible for administration of indirect tax laws including GST, customs, and central excise. As a Member, Kumar will play a key role in policy formulation, procedural reforms, and oversight of field formations.
