The Delhi Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed Zomato to pay compensation of ₹8,250 to a customer for canceling two food orders without proper justification. This ruling arose from a complaint lodged by Manoj Kumar regarding cancellations linked to a family birthday celebration.

The commission noted that Zomato's unilateral decision to cancel the orders created considerable inconvenience for the customer and mandated that Zomato refund the order payments along with interest. The ruling also included a compensation of ₹5,000 for mental harassment caused by this incident.

“Zomato must adhere to its service commitments to consumers and rectify this situation,” read the order.

This ruling reinforces consumer rights and establishes clear expectations for service providers regarding order fulfillment. Legal practitioners in the consumer rights sector should note this case as a potential point of reference for similar disputes in the e-commerce and food delivery domains.
