The office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks (CGPDTM) has initiated a stakeholder consultation process by releasing draft manuals for patent and trademark applications. The new documents aim to refine and update protocols, enhancing the clarity and efficiency of proceedings.

Stakeholders are invited to provide comments and suggestions on the Draft Manual of Patent Office (Practice & Procedure), 2026, as well as the Draft Manual of Trademark Office (Practice & Procedure), 2026. The respective deadlines for feedback are set at 30 days for the patent draft and 15 days for the trademark draft.

This initiative reflects the CGPDTM's commitment to engage with practitioners and create a more transparent and effective operating framework for intellectual property rights in India. It also signals an opportunity for legal professionals to directly influence the evolution of practice standards in patent and trademark procedures.

Legal practitioners should actively participate in the consultation to ensure that their insights contribute to the development of these crucial procedural manuals. This effort underscores the importance of stakeholder engagement in the continuous improvement of IP practices.
